DIG Lagat roots for clean police stations

Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat has intensified efforts to turn police stations into centres of excellence. 

On Saturday, Lagat visited Magadi Police Station where he praised the officers for maintaining a clean station and surroundings. 

"A clean environment makes our work easier since citizens won't feel uncomfortable which in turn boosts their confidence and they will be more willing to share information with us," Lagat said.

Since being appointed on July 25, 2024, the DIG has been making impromptu visits to police stations across the country.

His action was prompted by complaints that most police stations were unkempt without basic amenities like water and electricity. 

Lagat said through infrastructure upgrade, capacity building, and strengthened community engagement, police aim to create an environment where citizens feel safe, respected, and valued.

Further, digitalising police stations has been rolled out to enable citizens to report incidents from the comfort of their homes using smartphones, thus enhancing efficiency by assigning cases through a centralized dashboard, reducing bureaucracy while fostering accountability.

Before visiting the Magadi Police Station, the DIG joined staff of the Magadi Field Training Camp to celebrate Easter at Goshen Church within the camp.  

Lagat thanked the officers for the warm reception and serving the country, particularly for their sacrifices during this Easter holiday when many would prefer to be with their families. 

He also lauded the local community for their support and encouraged them to maintain a peaceful working environment with the officers.
