Kenya and the Netherlands have reinforced their agricultural partnership through a tree-growing initiative in Kiambu and the signing of agreements to boost investment, trade, and knowledge exchange.

Agricullture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe joined King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands at Thogoto Forest on Tuesday for a tree-planting exercise under Kenya’s 15 Billion Tree Growing Programme.

The initiative aligns with the country’s push for climate-smart agriculture and environmental conservation.

Later, the royal couple attended the Shamba Events, where they explored agricultural innovations, value addition technologies, and sustainable farming practices that are transforming Kenya’s agri-food sector.

Earlier in the day, Kenya and the Netherlands formalised agreements in agriculture, trade, and tourism through Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), paving the way for increased business partnerships and foreign investment.

“Kenya remains committed to fostering international cooperation that drives agricultural growth and sustainability,” said Kagwe.

The royal visit aims to deepen bilateral relations and enhance collaboration in agricultural development.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale accompanied Kagwe during the engagements.
