Ruto: Nation's growth secured through major development projects

President William Ruto has assured Kenyans that key multi-billion-shilling projects, aimed at stimulating the economy, will be completed as scheduled, despite growing concerns over their broader impact.

During his third day of a development tour in Western Kenya, Ruto, accompanied by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, said the government remains focused on service delivery.

The President led the commissioning of the extension of the River Nzoia flood control dyke in Budalang’i, Busia where he reinforced his administration's commitment to equitable distribution of national resources.

The project aims to prevent backflow from Lake Victoria, curbing flooding and ensuring residents can engage in farming and productive activities without fear of displacement.

The dyke will also protect key installations, including Musoma Primary and Musoma Secondary schools and the Mau Mau Trading Centre.

“We have united with all leaders to move our country forward. Our interest is to serve our people, to deliver the development agenda and improve the lives of all Kenyans. We are not interested in those perpetrating tribal politics, those keen to divide the country, those who are incompetent,” said Ruto.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki noted that the government’s focus is on improving vital sectors of the economy that directly impact millions of Kenyans.

“The President is improving every sector in the country that is beneficial and profitable to wananchi; in agriculture, fishing, sugarcane and other sectors set to improve the lives of all Kenyans. The President is busy working to ensure the country is self-sufficient and that every citizen is a beneficiary,” added Kindiki.

 The President also launched the construction of the Luanda Modern Market in Vihiga County, with Sh366 million set aside for its completion within 18 months. The market will serve at least 2,000 traders, offering spaces for fresh farm produce, cereals, fish, ceramics, clothing, shoes, and general household goods.

This market is part of 400 being constructed under the Kenya Kwanza manifesto, which also targets stimulating agriculture, livestock, fishing, and other sectors to create youth employment opportunities.

“This is a development-oriented government. It is a government that is serving all Kenyans. It is an all-encompassing government only focused on service delivery. For those keen on dividing Kenyans, we are telling them we are not interested in tribal and divisive engagements,” noted Kindiki.

The tour also included the groundbreaking for a tuition block at St Anne’s Bunyala Girls in Busia County and the laying of a foundation stone for Khwisero Mother and Child Level 4 Hospital in Kakamega.
