The government is searching for investors to take over industries in Migori County.

Investments, Trade, and Industrialisation Principal Secretary Juma Mukhwana who toured three industries on February 26, 2025 revealed that the government is sourcing for investors who would ensure their sustainability.

The industries include Migori County Aggregation Industrial Park which is 70 per cent complete, Getonganya Sweet Potato Processing Plant and Karamu Slaughter House.

The PS who addressed the Press at Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko’s office said they don't want to wait for the Aggregation Industrial Park to be completed before they could bring in investors.

“Already we have advertised this aggregation park for people who want to invest their machinery and manufacture here,” Dr Mkhawana said.

The government has already received applications and would share with Governor Ochilo Ayacko’s administration once the process is complete.

However, the PS expressed fears that they may not attract a lot of investors because the projects were in rural areas.

“We are going to do joint investment forums so that some of them would be here and some in Nairobi and include some of our Kenyans in the diaspora,” the PS remarked.

The national government which has already disbursed Sh116 million for the aggregation park intends to release an additional Sh100 million by next week.

Migori County Aggregation and Industrial Park is being implemented in collaboration between the national government and Governor Ayacko’s administration.
They target to complete the project by June 30, 2025.

“We are hoping to have it operationalised before the end of the year,” PS Mkhawana said.

He underscored the importance of the projects and investors saying that manufacturing was the only place they could use to create jobs.

The PS acknowledged Governor Ayacko’s administration efforts saying that they were ahead of 17 other counties which were undertaking a similar project.

“We are pleased with the progress that has been made,” the PS highlighted.

Ayacko said Migori needs to increase the number of industries.

The governor revealed that the national government and his administration have an industrial pillar in their vision to increase productivity, employment and generate more wealth and reduce poverty.

“The PS has joined us to help us walk together and look at the possibility of operationalising some of our facilities that are important for industrialization,” he said.

He pointed out that Getoganya sweet potato processing plant, County Aggregation and Industrial Park in Macalder and an abattoir at Karamu, Kuria West are their priority projects.

The governor said they were looking at sustainability of Getonganya sweet potato processing plant through getting an investor so that farmers could have a reliable off-taker, good products and income.

He said the county needed to operationalise its slaughter house and look at the possibility of having a turnery because of the skin and hides that were being produced in large numbers.
