Governor Barasa, regional officials picked to lead ODM team

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has been elected as the chairperson of the ODM regional chairpersons executive committee.

In the new changes, Barasa will be deputised by Muhammad Ali Sheikh from the North Eastern region.

Speaking after the Council of County Chairpersons meeting in Nairobi on Thursday, Wachira Maina, who was elected the committee secretary, said the new team reflects a national representation, with members elected from all eight regions.

Hamilton Orata, Homa Bay Deputy Governor, was elected as the caucus vice secretary, while Moses Wamoru will be the treasurer.

The committee also elected Robinson Torome as the organizing secretary. He will be deputized by Hassan Mwanyoha from the Coast region.

The five committee members include John Chebii from South Rift, Nicholas Tum from South Rift, Pius Kithome from Lower Eastern, Ali Noor from Marsabit, and Siyan Mbogwa from Central region.

“We would like to thank the outgoing team for their participation and for accepting to hold these positions. The CoCC executive was formed more than seven years ago, and their contributions have been invaluable,” said Maina.

He further noted that among the achievements of the outgoing team was ensuring that the committee was entrenched in ODM’s constitution as an official party organ.

“We are fully aware of what is happening in the country, and we promise our members, the outgoing team, and our party leadership at the national level, including the NEC and the central committee, that we will work together to ensure ODM reaches the next level.”

Sheikh said the team was looking ahead to sub-county polls.

“We are now moving forward with elections at the sub-county level, and we are confident that these elections will be free and fair. As the leadership caucus, we will hit the ground running, and soon, our party will witness positive changes,” he said.
