Kenya National Women’s U-17 team head coach, Mildred Cheche, was yesterday named Sports Journalists Association of Kenya Coach of the Month for March 2025.
Cheche secured the accolade after leading her team to a commanding 5-0 aggregate victory over Uganda in the first round of the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup qualifiers, with wins of 2-0 in Kampala and 3-0 in Nairobi.
Cheche outperformed notable nominees, including Kabras Sugar's Carlos Katya and Kenya Police FC’s Etienne Ndayiragire, who finished second and third, respectively.
The award is particularly significant as she prepares the Junior Starlets for their next challenge against Cameroon in the qualifiers, aiming to return to the FIFA U-17 World Cup after their historic debut in the Dominican Republic.
Cheche dedicated the award to her players and technical staff, acknowledging their crucial role in her success.

“I would like to dedicate this award to Junior Starlets players and members of the technical bench, because without them, I could not have achieved this feat. This award is a big motivation for us, especially as we prepare to play against Cameroon in a home and away World Cup qualifier starting this Sunday,” Cheche said.
Coach Katya had a remarkable month with Kabras Sugar, leading his team to the Kenya Cup final and maintaining an unbeaten streak of 40 matches.
Similarly, Ndayiragire saw Kenya Police finish the month without a loss, remaining at the top of the FKF Premier League standings.
