President William Ruto has appointed Professor Makau Mutua as the Senior Advisor on Constitutional Affairs in the Executive Office of the President.

Ruto termed Prof Mutua, a distinguished legal scholar adding that he brings extensive experience in constitutional law, governance, and human rights to the role.

“I extend my congratulations to Prof Mutua and welcome him to a dynamic team of public servants working toward the successful implementation of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda,” Ruto said in a statement.

The Head of State expressed his optimism that Mutua’s expertise will play a key role in shaping policies and ensuring alignment with constitutional principles as the administration continues its reform agenda.

On his part, Mutua took to social media to express his gratitude for the appointment, promising to serve with diligence, honor, and distinction.

Prof Makau Mutua was the spokesman of the Raila Odinga 2022 presidential campaign team and now joins the long list of leaders from the opposition who have benefitted from the broad-based government between Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

He was also among the team that championed Raila's African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship bid in Addis Ababa where Raila lost to Djibouti's Mahamoud Ali Youssouf.
